General Discussion
My name is Paul Naddaff, I am co-president of Big Kids Dodgeball Boston. We’ve been throwing tournaments for almost a year now, and have a pretty good idea how to make our dodgeballers happy. We are not affiliated with the IDBF, and never will be. I’d like to make a few points.
First, I did not attend the "World Cup Tournament" I have no comment on any aspect of the tournament except the fact that it "was not sanctioned". This guy obviously had no business throwing a tournament- he didn't plan well. I'm sure next time he'll do a lot better- if there is a next time :-(
Second, Dodgeball is not meant to be "sanctioned" it isn't meant to be "uniform"- and it never will be. There are so many variations of this game, each has ups and downs- There is beauty in heterogeneity. I don’t know about you, but I hold my childhood, and the memories that come with it, very close to me. I have fond memories of my time playing dodgeball- when somebody takes the game that I enjoyed so much and tries to get me to play THEIR way. It pisses me off- and it should piss you off too!
The IDBF may have had good intentions with their business (and it IS a business), but they have gone too far. You, don’t need the IDBF to throw a successful tournament. BKD and other tournament hosts have proven this many times now.
Here are some guidelines for life and dodgeball:
1. Don't play by anybody else's rules.
2. Don't play with anybody else's balls.
3. Dodge - the - ball.
Kiss my $3 rubber dodgeballs :-) Have any of you actually spoken to an insurance carrier...? It's not the balls that cause injuries- it's collisions with other players.
Dodge on.
