Losing possession of your guard ball?

The Rules of Dodgeball
Hi all,

I started running a Dodgeball team/training session in Bristol UK and being a newbie to the game I have a question about Losing possession of your guard ball? (When I say guard ball I mean a ball you have in your possession.)

So when you have a ball in your possession if your opponent throws a ball at you and you use your ball to block an incoming ball and you drop your ball then you’re out right?

1. If this is true then what about if you drop your guard ball because
A)you wanted to try and catch an opponents ball
B)your dodging an incoming ball.
C)You throw to a team member and they either miss it completely or it hits them then hits the ground.

2. What about if a ball is coming at you and you throw your guard ball at the incoming ball and either balls hit you, are you out? Because wouldn’t both balls be dead as then hit in mid air?

Thanks,

Scott

losing the ball

Yes, you're right, you are out if you use a ball to block a ball and you drop the one in your possession when you block.
1. A) We say that it is permissable to drop a ball you possess to catch an incoming ball
B) You are not out if you drop a ball while dodging, unless the incoming ball hits your ball and makes you drop it
C) No one is out if a pass is fumbled
2. If you throw a ball at a ball, and they collide mid-air, most referees would rule them both as dead

I would be interested to hear more about what you've got going on in Bristol. I run my own league in Kettering. You can e-mail me on dodgeball@npinnock.co.uk
